Each season the collections travel from New York to London, Milan and Paris. This series of four follows the shows city by city: the week itself, the big shows and what was written about them, and the new designers each capital is backing.
The week that opens the season
New York Fashion Week opens each season, every February and September. Since 2014 the Council of Fashion Designers of America has been the sole organiser of the Official NYFW Schedule, through the Fashion Calendar founded in 1945 by the publisher Ruth Finley.
The spring/summer 2027 schedule ran from Thursday 10 to Tuesday 15 September 2026, with 70 runway shows and designer presentations on the preliminary calendar. From this season, the CFDA’s fur-free policy applies to every brand on it.
The big shows
The week opened with Henry Zankov’s debut collection as artistic director of Diane von Furstenberg, and closed with Thom Browne, the CFDA’s chairman.
Ralph Lauren showed his Spring 2027 collection on the eve of the week, Wednesday 9 September, as did Coach, marking 85 years, and Rachel Comey, marking 25. The schedule also brought back Monse, threeASFOUR and Tommy Hilfiger.
The CFDA’s own report on Coach describes the show as a birthday party, the idea of the house’s creative director, Stuart Vevers: a live orchestra at the close, a troupe of voguers, and a one-night nightclub beyond the show space.
The CFDA Fashion Awards
The 2026 CFDA Fashion Awards named Ralph Lauren American Menswear Designer of the Year, a year after his womenswear award. Rachel Scott won Womenswear for Diotima for the second time; she is also now creative director of Proenza Schouler.
New York Fashion Week opens each season.
Ana Khouri, the New York jeweller, won Accessories, and Colleen Allen, of Brooklyn, was named Emerging Designer of the Year for her romantic, historically informed clothes.
The rising names
New York’s nursery is the CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund, set up after 9/11; 200 designers have since received mentoring and more than $8 million. Its past finalists include Proenza Schouler, Thom Browne, Telfar, Bode and Sandy Liang.
Its 2026 finalists showed on the official schedule this September, several for the first time: Jamie Haller, Bad Binch TongTong by Terrence Zhou and Milamore by George Inaki, alongside Aisling Camps, Amir Taghi, Lii by Zane Li and Zoe Gustavia Anna Whalen.
The schedule also welcomed new names such as Conner Ives, Zaldy and Magda Butrym; Conner Ives is a Vanguard nominee at London’s Fashion Awards this November.
Watching from the Rink
For the third year, NYFW Live at Rockefeller Center brought the shows to the public, screened on a 27-by-28-foot screen at the Rink from 10 to 15 September: the only place, physical or digital, where anyone could watch them.
Our advice: in September, the Rink at Rockefeller Center is the public’s front row; at any time of year, walk Madison Avenue from Ralph Lauren’s flagships at No. 867 and No. 888.
