About Niagara Falls: the back story

Niagara Falls is in the far west of New York State, so most visitors fly to Buffalo Niagara International Airport and drive or take a taxi to the falls.

The falls

Niagara Falls State Park calls itself America’s oldest state park and is open 365 days a year. Cave of the Winds descends 175 feet into the gorge to the Hurricane Deck, and Maid of the Mist boats sail to the foot of the falls in season (niagarafallsstatepark.com).

Getting there

Fly from JFK, LaGuardia or Newark to Buffalo Niagara International Airport (BUF), then drive to Niagara Falls.

Cave of the Winds takes you 175 feet down into the gorge.

When to go

Summer is busiest; the boats and some attractions are seasonal.

Our advice: make it an overnight trip.
