The back story

About Washington DC: the back story

The capital is a long day trip, or better an overnight, by Amtrak’s Acela or Northeast Regional trains from Moynihan Train Hall.

The National Mall

The National Park Service cares for the National Mall and its memorials (nps.gov/nama).

The museums

The Smithsonian’s museums line the Mall.

The Mall runs from the Capitol to the Lincoln Memorial.

Getting there

Amtrak trains run from Moynihan Train Hall to Washington Union Station.

Our advice: stay a night if you can; there is too much to see in a day.
