About The Hamptons: the back story

The Hamptons are a string of villages on Long Island’s South Fork, from Southampton to East Hampton and Montauk.

The villages

Southampton, Bridgehampton, East Hampton and Sag Harbor have main streets of shops and restaurants, with the Parrish Art Museum at Water Mill and the Montauk Point Lighthouse at the very end of the island.

Getting there

Take the LIRR from Penn Station or Grand Central Madison, the Hampton Jitney coach from Manhattan, or a seasonal Blade flight.

Summer weekends fill the Jitney and the trains: book ahead.

When to go

Summer is high season; spring and autumn are quieter.

Our advice: go midweek, or stay a night.
